I recently picked up this lovely kids book by Alain Grée. Published in 1963, “La Mer” forms part of a beautiful series of Grée books published by Casterman in France between 1962 – 1983. All feature beautiful illustrations throughout, slightly reminicent of Charlie Harper at times, but with a distinctive French twist – just the way we like it!

Few more pics after the jump…

We’re very honoured to have several bits of work featured in a new book published by DGV, titled Naïve – Modernism & Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design. In the words of the publisher:

Naïve documents the extraordinary renaissance of Classic Modernism, from the 1940s to 1960s, in contemporary graphic design. This compilation introduces a new wave of young designers who are rediscovering the stylistic elements reminiscent of classic graphic design such as silkscreen printing, classical typography, hand lettering, woodcutting and folk art and integrating them into their work.”

It’s a pretty book and we’re happy to be a part of it. The book cover design (top image) is by a very talented chap from Finland, Pietari Posti.

I recently picked up this little fellow, designed by Neville Brody, and published in 1983 by The Museum of Modern Art, Oxford to accompany the exhibition New French Painting. Although he’s only a small chap (15cmx14cm – 96pages), the book as a whole is a lovely object.

Here’s a couple of Penny Dreadfuls I picked up in Bratislava. I never get tired of John Sinclair covers.

Here’s a nice interview with Aubrey Powell, primarily discussing the last Hypnogsis book For The Love of Vinyl, but also revealing some interesting details behind some of their sleeves.

The book is published by PictureBox Inc (ISBN: 0981562213).

I recently picked up this nice boxset made by National Geographic in around 1980. The box is just a bit bigger than a 10inch vinyl sleeve, and inside are 3 separate elements: Stars in Your Sky, which is a sleeve containing a dial map of the universe; SpaceScope, which is an 8pp booklet containing 6x 35mm slides of space imagery; and lastly, SpaceSounds, which is a sleeve containg a 10inch flexidisc of some tasty space sounds!

I don’t know much about the package (except that I like it), the booklet design is credited to David M. Seager, but I don’t know if he is also responsible for the great optical patterns and the overall package design as well.

This will be a welcome addition to the La Boca book shelf.

Passed by the launch party for the Barney Bubbles book last night. Had a lot of fun and great to see so many esteemed guests representing! Also got my grubby hands on a copy of the book – it’s wonderful.

Sorry I don’t have better pics – the wine was also wonderful.

Really great to see a book finally being published on one of my greatest inspirations, Barney Bubbles. I haven’t seen a final copy yet but how could it possibly go wrong? This is an essential book for any designer with even the slightest interest in sleeve design. Thanks to the Cox-Dorée Institure for the info.

We’re very pleased to have several of our sleeves featured in this new book by Spex magazine in Germany.

The book is nicely designed at 12-inch size and is published by Rockbuch (ISBN: 9783927638501).
